Meet Coach Adam Soural
I’ve been a part of the Metuchen YMCA community for over 10 years—starting as a swimmer myself. After spending years assistant coaching and volunteering with various summer teams, I pursued a degree in Music Education at Rutgers University. Though I didn’t stay in music, I gained experience in everything from sales to teaching in public schools.
I’ve now accumulated about 6 years of swim team coaching experience, and combined with my teaching roles in public schools and other jobs, I’ve been working with and teaching young people for nearly a decade. About five years after stepping away from swimming, I returned to coach at my old team, MEY, and rediscovered my love for the sport and its community. I'm incredibly grateful to now lead the Edison Otters and work alongside such a supportive group of swimmers and parents.
Kelly Vorhees is a former member of the swim team and has been involved in aquatics for nearly a decade. Over the years, she has gained experience in many different areas of aquatics, including swim lessons, competitive swim team coaching, lifeguarding, and lifeguard management. Her wide range of experience and passion for the sport make her a valuable part of the coaching staff.
This will be Kelly’s second year coaching with the Edison Otters, and she is excited to continue helping swimmers grow both in and out of the water. Her positive attitude, knowledge of the sport, and dedication to the team help create a fun and supportive environment for all swimmers.
Simone is another former swim team member who has transitioned into coaching and has become a valuable part of our aquatics staff. He has been heavily involved with our private lesson and swim lesson programs at the YMCA and has spent the past two-plus years coaching swimmers of various ages and skill levels.
With his strong experience in teaching and coaching, Simone does a great job helping swimmers build confidence, improve technique, and enjoy the sport. We are very glad to have him on board with the Edison Otters and are excited for another great season with her coaching staff.
Ryan Spaventa is a longtime swim team member with a strong background in aquatics. Over the past three years, she has worked in a variety of aquatics roles, including lifeguarding and swim lessons, gaining valuable experience both in and out of the water.
Ryan is very good with children and brings a positive, encouraging attitude to the pool deck each day. Her experience around the water, combined with her passion for swimming and teaching, helps create a safe, fun, and supportive environment for swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
Bradley Warner is a former swimmer with Scarlet Aquatics, where he trained at some of the program’s highest levels. His experience as a competitive swimmer has given him a strong understanding of the ins and outs of swimming, especially when it comes to higher-level training and competition.
This will be Bradley’s first year coaching with us, but he has previously helped coach with other teams and has experience instructing in dance and other youth programs. His background gives him a great mix of firsthand competitive experience and teaching ability, allowing him to connect well with swimmers while helping them continue to improve.
We are very excited to have Bradley on board with the Edison Otters and look forward to the knowledge and energy he will bring to the team this season.
Oliver Sundor is a former MEY swim team member and has been working as a lifeguard, continuing to grow his experience in aquatics and around the pool environment. This will be his first year on board with the MEY and Edison Otters coaching staff.
Oliver brings a fun-loving and energetic personality to practices and does a great job helping create an enjoyable and positive atmosphere for swimmers. His enthusiasm, passion for the sport, and ability to connect with swimmers make him a great addition to the team, and we are excited to have him involved this season.
